Eliphalet Remington II was an American blacksmith and gunsmith, who founded the company that bears his name, Remington Arms, in 1816. He was born in 1793 in Suffield, Connecticut and was the son of a blacksmith. He started working in his father's workshop and eventually opened his own workshop in Ilion, New York.


Remington began by manufacturing flintlock rifles, which were in high demand. He gained a reputation for producing high-quality guns, and his business soon expanded. He also began manufacturing other products such as plows, edge tools, and other agricultural implements.


Remington was a skilled gunsmith and was known for his attention to detail. He was also a strong supporter of the use of interchangeable parts in manufacturing, which was a relatively new concept at the time.


The company that he founded, Remington Arms, became one of the largest and most successful firearms manufacturers in the United States. It continues to produce firearms and other products to this day and has become a household name in the firearms industry. Eliphalet Remington II died in 1861.
