About Henry Mill - Who is Henry Mill

The first known machine for transcribing letters, also known as a typing machine, was invented by Pellegrino Turri in 1808. He built the machine for his blind friend Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano, who wanted to be able to write letters without assistance. The machine used a keyboard with raised letters, and the typed letters were embossed onto a sheet of paper. This machine is considered as the first "mechanical typewriter" and it was not intended for commercial use.

It was the first known machine for transcribing letters, also known as a typing machine, but it was not a practical machine as it was too slow, and the letters were not visible to the typist.

First Practical Typewriter was Developed by Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel W. Soule

Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel W. Soule developed a practical typewriter in 1867 and it was commercially successful. The machine was first called the "Type-Writer" and was later renamed the "Sholes and Glidden Type-Writer." The invention was the first to feature a QWERTY keyboard layout, which is still in use today on most English language typewriters and computer keyboards.

Sholes, a Milwaukee newspaper editor, invented the first version of the machine in 1867. He developed the design with the help of Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule, who provided the technical expertise to turn Sholes's prototype into a working machine.

Sholes's typewriter was first manufactured by E. Remington and Sons, a firearms and sewing machine manufacturer. The first Remington typewriter was sold to the public on July 1, 1874.
